Snow and Goals

Snow and Goals
Posted on 01/27/2016
A superintendent rarely feels more pressure than the pressure that occurs when it's time to make a decision about snow days. I know that we made the right decision on each day this week and last week to keep our kids and teachers safe.  I hope you all enjoyed the snow before you had to shovel out and that your days back in the classroom today were productive and exciting.

My initial time here has been guided by my 90 Day Entry Plan.

During my first month here, I have learned so much from all of you. I have been able to visit almost every school (the snow kept me away from some), meet all of the principals and am working through attending a faculty meeting at each school. I am building relationships with the School Board, the MCEA, our various advisory groups and outside entities like the Sheriff's Department and the Montgomery County Educational Foundation.

What can you expect from me as we continue the year?  I guarantee you will see me around.  I enjoy attending after school events at our schools - theater productions, sports competitions and enrichment activities.

I also have some aspirations for MCPS.  As I meet with each faculty, I am looking for ways that we can improve our communication, update our technology and better serve our teachers in the classroom. We have a few initiatives under way already to help meet these goals.  We will unveil a district Twitter account, and Twitter accounts for each school very soon.  In the meantime, you can follow me

I look forward to seeing you soon!
