On February 2, the Montgomery County School Board rescinded the previous vote to change school start times for the 2016-17 school year. Middle and high school students will continue to start school before elementary students next year.
The school board has asked the superintendent to look at other ways that we may be able to allow more sleep time for secondary students. Items currently being considered include utilizing grab-n-go breakfast to shorten the amount of breakfast time needed in the morning, thus allowing bus routes to start later. Other options include adjusting times by 10-15 minutes for all schools. These options are still being vetted and evaluated.
A final recommendation will be presented to the school board in March or April. That information will be available on the MCPS website
and communicated to parents when it becomes available.
